The tips of YATO transformer soldering irons are coated with a material that reduces the oxidation of the tip. A proven way to care for a tip is to tin it. When heating the soldering iron for the first time, put some tin on the tip and remove the excess with something like brass filings. The layer of tin thus formed protects against oxidation. It is good practice to tin the nozzle after each job is finished.
